Bio
Shannon Wolfson is an award-winning, modern journalist, who is passionate about telling stories that impact and enrich the community and incite change where it is needed.
She is a master of time management, anchoring a daily newscast, turning daily live reports, contributing investigative stories as a member of the KXAN Investigative Team and producing stories and video for the web.
She is a newsroom leader who serves as the Chairperson for the KXAN Strategic Feedback Council, a group of employees selected by the General Manager to strategize and brainstorm ways to improve operations and enrich the community.
Shannon graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Journalism and a specialty in Broadcast News.
In her 11 years as a professional journalist, Shannon has been honored with numerous awards for her spot news coverage, general assignment reporting and beat reporting. She began her career at KXII in Sherman, Texas as a general assignment reporter and was quickly promoted to Weekend Anchor and then Evening Co-Anchor. In 2006, Shannon began working as a general assignment reporter at KXAN in Austin. In 2009, she was promoted to Anchor of the newly launched KXAN News at 9 on the CW, while maintaining her daily reporting duties for KXAN. In 2011, she became a member of the newly formed KXAN Investigative Team.
Shannon’s investigation into Austin police officers running red lights prompted a change in department policy. Her investigation into money owed to the police department for security and traffic control led the department to quickly collect more than $350,000 in outstanding bills and highlighted inefficient accounting practices within the department that led APD to change its collection practices.
Shannon is proud to have been selected by her co-workers to receive the highest honor bestowed by the LIN Corporation on its employees, the Circle of Excellence Award.
Shannon is happily married to her high school love, Aaron, and mom to a precious rescue dog, Noodle. She is passionate about animal rescue and volunteers her time to help animals in need.
